Via Montenapoleone is the most gorgeous shopping street in Milan, situated right behind the Duomo, with high-fashion shops like Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Prada and Rolex. Also if you don’t have tons of money to spend, it’s definitely worth paying a visit to see the most amazing window displays in the world.

Setting up window displays is made into a true art form on Via Montenapoleone. Dolce & Gabbana emphasize the theatrical ways of these streets by ‘framing’ their shop windows with a golden classical frame and a red velvet curtain. A few doors down you can walk beside Armani models as their fashion shows are being projected on the outside walls of the shop. And there are Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s parked on every street corner so the men have something to look at as well.

The most famous shopping street of Milan is made even more special during two events a year: Christmas and ‘Vogue’s Fashion Night Out’ in September. With Christmas, the streets are filled with lights and ornaments as if the streets them self were a large Christmas tree. And the shops match the holiday spirit as well. For example last year the Cartier shop looked a large tree with shiny red Cartier gift-boxes all over the building. The year before the building was transformed into a large gift box with a red ribbon on it. The designers go all out for Christmas!

Vogue’s Fashion Night Out is a whole different story. It’s the only time a year when runways are built on Duomo square and every shop in the neighbourhood is open untill 3 in the morning and serve you cocktails and shots of liquor upon arrival. The whole area turns into one big party where the worlds most famous DJ’s play and there are real life models in the shop windows displaying the newest clothes of the season. So if you’re planning a trip to Milan in september make sure you visit this extraordinary fashion event!
